Celebrating the Spirit of Giving

Happy National Philanthropy Day, a day dedicated to recognizing the incredible power of giving.

At the core of this special day lies the profound understanding that giving isn’t just about donating funds; it’s about creating a ripple effect of positivity and hope throughout our communities.

Here at The Lukens Company, we hold this belief close to our hearts, weaving the threads of philanthropy into the very fabric of our company’s values. And while we encourage a philanthropic mindset that extends beyond our office walls, our team members go above and beyond in championing causes that they’re truly passionate about. They don’t just talk the talk; they walk the walk and occasionally even run a marathon or two!

So, let’s take a moment to celebrate a few of the ways our team has helped drive impactful change supporting causes that inspire them. They include:

  • Racing through the streets of Washington, D.C. in the Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon to raise funds for St. Jude
  • Utilizing creative skills and providing transportation support for the adorable furballs at Carolina Boxer Rescue
  • Serving on various committees to raise funds and put on the Alzheimer’s Association’s annual walk in Washington, D.C.
  • Spreading joy as a Wish Granter for Make-A-Wish children, helping to turn their wishes into reality
  • Restoring the Hamilton Willard Shafer Farmhouse, which dates back to the Civil War era, as part of the Burkittsville Preservation Association’s efforts to restore the history of the town
  • Marching over 14 miles to raise awareness for veterans’ organizations
  • Conducting one-on-one tutoring sessions through ReEstablish Richmond to help refugees find their footing and succeed
  • Writing and sending holiday greeting cards to those in need through The Angel Card Project
  • Providing event support for the annual Pasadena Tournament of Roses to raise vital funds for local education, recreation, and arts programs
  • Collecting and purchasing everything from toys to clothing to school supplies to fill dozens of shoebox-sized care packages for Cross Catholic Outreach’s Box of Joy volunteer program
  • Laying wreaths at Arlington National Cemetery to honor the brave souls who dedicated their lives to protecting our freedom
  • Partnering with others on the Military Officers Association of America’s Advisory Board to identify top-notch services that can benefit military spouses and empower them to achieve meaningful employment opportunities
  • And finally, in an act that defines the true spirit of selflessness, donating a kidney to a two-year-old girl battling chronic kidney disease

As we look back on these beautiful moments of compassion, let us be reminded that the power to make a difference lies within each one of us. We’re immensely proud of our incredible team members—or rather real-life superheroes—and how they find big and small ways to give back.

Here’s to more laughter, more love, and more giving in our world. Happy National Philanthropy Day!
